Metrics for student progress in musicology
Two metrics define and assess the progress of graduate students in musicology at the University of Texas. First, each degree (the M.M. in musicology and Ph.D. in musicology) has a schedule of work that defines "acceptable progress" toward that degree. Second, a series of faculty assessments evaluates each student’s progress at specified intervals. Together, these metrics provide students with clear guidelines for completion of their degrees and afford faculty the opportunity to communicate their expectations and offer their appraisals directly to each student.
